  • Empowerment and Exposure of Privacy: The grandmothers come forward, revealing their stories, which lead to interpersonal conflicts, issues of self-identity, and the processing of sadness.

  • Formation of Group Unity: The counselor gathers the grandmothers regularly, forming a consensus and strengthening bonds. As they share their past experiences, mutual support grows, and the grandmothers even refer to each other as sisters. Simultaneously, they gradually understand each other's life challenges, such as coping with the judgmental gaze of family members or dealing with the reactions of unknowing relatives.

  • Deepening the Therapeutic Process: With the group formed, the counselor guides the grandmothers to revisit their shared experiences. This process involves re-experiencing grief, flipping through long-buried memories, and reorganizing, repositioning, and awakening their inner feelings. This stage represents a more profound level of retrospective therapy.

  • Return to the Present: Transitioning from retrospective therapy, the focus shifts to the current challenges the grandmothers face, including difficulties, illnesses, interpersonal relationships, and the impact of their past as comfort women on their lives. The counselor helps them explore how to cope with guilt and navigate their current situations.

  • Self-Awareness, Forgiveness, and Self-Empowerment: After the deep therapeutic journey, the grandmothers engage in self-reflection, self-forgiveness, and self-improvement. They release sadness, shed negative self-images and resentments, and prepare to face the upcoming phases of life with a renewed sense of self.

Communication with indigenous grandmothers poses language barriers, but since they came forward, there is a tangible sense of emerging from the darkness. They are willing to disclose secrets buried for 60 years, transitioning from concealment to openness and releasing grief, ultimately facing their past with a more tranquil mindset. The counselor emphasizes the importance of elevating the grandmothers to a level of understanding their destiny, letting go of resentment, and beginning the journey of change. Starting from a place of love, they seek positive meaning in life. Despite walking different paths, the grandmothers realize the significance of their journeys and gradually elevate themselves to the level of life's deeper meaning. In any case, the counselor observes that the grandmothers are now happier and embody a beautiful vitality.
